RE: reese 16k slider hitch not sliding

If you can't find the Dupont dry lube, Gunk also makes one that seems to be easier to find in stores. I've used both with equal success.

I didn't lube any axles. The 5er is only 4 months old.

Squeaky trailer brake

We bought a new Cougar in April and the brakes are squeaky. They are fine until the speed drops under 15MPH. Then they usually squeak pretty loud. They also occasionally stick for a second or two after releasing the brakes. This doesn't happen very often though.
I have a prodigy break controller and this seems to happen on the C, B1, B2, and B3 settings. Any idea on what could be going on? The dealer is supposed to have a tech call me back but hasn't yet.
The braking seems to work fine but the sound is annoying.

RE: Theft security of fifth wheel hitch

Target carries a 4 pack of small Masterlocks that fix perfectly in the pin grove. I use 2 for the hitch and the other 2 for the propane tanks.

Chart for tire load and inflation?

Does anyone have a link to a chart that gives tire inflation information based on axle load? I've had no luck searching.

RE: Estes Park, Colorado

We stay at Elk Meadow RV and like it. If you have Quicktime installed, here is a 360º panorama of the park and views.

Overnight stay - disconnect?

Last year on our trip to Estes Park with our travel trailer, we stayed overnight at a state park to break the trip up. I lowered the tongue jack to level, unplugged the electrical cable, and we stayed hooked up. It is OK to do the same with a 5er if the site is fairly level? I figure lifting the truck by the hitch to level probably isn't a good idea. What do you think?

RE: Found source of smell (pic) - need a solution!

I got a replacement vent from Home Depot and after 3 pulls, absolutely no smell now. $5 part and a couple minutes of work.

RE: Found source of smell (pic) - need a solution!

I pulled the vent off and there's silicone or something that appears to keep the valve from moving. Should I be able to move the valve by hand? If so, I don't see a way to do it because of the silicone.

Found source of smell (pic) - need a solution!

A week ago I posted about a rotten egg smell in my 5er after towing. After doing some experiments and eliminating propane, it is coming from under the sink. I put the stoppers in the sink with some water in it and the smell still persists. Every time I open the door under the sink, the smell is there. It appears there is some type of vent in the plumbing under the sink. You can't tell from the pic, but there are some holes in the top piece and I'm assuming are a vent.

So could this vent actually be broke or do I need some chemicals, solution, etc. in the tank? If so, what should I pour down it? I never had any gray tank problems in the 3 years I had a TT.

RE: Bad smell in 5er - only when towing???

I have a cyclone (rv360 clone) on my black tank. Do you also use them on grey tanks? If so, I have a grey and galley grey, but only one vent up top. Should this vent be for both tanks?
I do have in sink drain plugs and will try that next time.

RE: Bad smell in 5er - only when towing???

We have the trash under the sink and noticed an odor under there. We though it was the trash, but it didn't go away after taking it out. So, the sink valves could be the problem.

Bad smell in 5er - only when towing???

We got a new Cougar 5er in March. The last several times I towed it, when I went inside, it smelled bad. Something like a rotten egg smell. I put the slides out and start camping in it, and it's fine. Put the slides back in and tow it and the smell comes back and it's strong. It's been sitting all day with the slides in and still smells, but not as bad.
Could it be the rubber roof on the slides? My Rockwood had a vinyl roof and never a smell. When camping, we never have any black or grey water smells. I always use a lot of water when dumping and always put several toilet fulls of fresh water after dumping. The seal on the toilet seems fine and the smell doesn't appear to be coming from it.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? We use the 5er for our rest stop when traveling and this smell must go.

RE: Propane question for Keystone owners

BlackSilver - I do exactly what you said. On my Rockwood, when the left tank went dry, the valve would switch from the left to up. That's how I knew the left tank was empty and it was now drawing from the right. My question is will my Keystone's valve also switch to the up position when one tank runs out?

Propane question for Keystone owners

I have an 08 Keystone Cougar and have a question about the propane valve. With my old Forest River Rockwood, I would open both tanks but put the valve to one side so it would only draw off that tank. When that side ran out, the valve would automatically switch to the up position and switch to the other tank. Does anyone know if the Keystones work the same way? The switch doesn't have a positive stop in the middle position like my Rockwood did, so I'm wondering.

This seem normal for 13.5K A/C in 5er?

I had a 26' TT and it had a 13,500 A/C. I would usually run it on low and on really hot days move it to high so it would cycle. Last weekend in our 5er, we turned ours on a day where it was in the mid 80's. I wasn't feeling well, the 5er wasn't getting any shade, and it was warm inside. I turned the A/C on low and it ran for an hour or two without turning off. Once I turned the fan on high, it was cycling just fine.
Does this sound normal for a 31' 5er with two slides and 13,500 A/C? I figured a non-humid day in the mid 80's it would be fine on low. I'm wondering how it will do on a 95º day with high humidity on high?
Maybe it would be best to run on high during the day and low at night?

RE: Here is ouyr new RIG!

If I am wrong why is it high in the front? enjoy chevman
Could be that the 5er is on flat ground and the truck on an incline?
Great looking trailer and truck! Enjoy.

RE: How has fuel prices effected your rv plans for next 12+ ?

Our big trip is 1100 miles round trip to Estes Park. I figure diesel is $1 more a gallon than last year. If I get 11 MPG, then it's $100 more to go this year than last. On a 10 night trip, definitely not enough to worry about.
On shorter trips, we plan on staying a day or two longer to ease the fuel prices. Once you pay to get there, the camping fees are minimal.

RE: Dometic fridge running at 25º

Wouldn't 30° still be freezing food?
Thanks for the useful reply but not everything freezes at 32º. My point was I want to get my temperature warmer.
